Spotlight Sessions:

Individual Dance Portraits

Studio owners - contact me for information on my dance studio + competition team process!

Step 1: Get to Know Each Other

Every dancer is unique! In order for these shots to emphasize your athleticism and skill, first I need to get to know a bit about your strengths as a dancer. Do you excel at jumps and leaps, or is floor work your forte? Is flexibility your thing? What style of dance do you love most?

I don’t want these photos just to capture your talent - I want it to capture your personality, too!

Step 2: Brainstorm + Plan

This is where we’ll talk logistics - what, when, and where.

What do you plan to wear - dance costumes, a leotard, or athletic clothes you would normally wear to practice?

Where are we shooting - at my studio in downtown Cedar Rapids, at your dance studio, out in the community, or somewhere else?

I’ll also ask that you brainstorm 3-5 poses, jumps, or moves you feel confident performing for your session. This gives you time to practice!

Step 3: Capture Photos!

On shoot day, I’ll arrive on location earlier than you to get my equipment set up, like lighting and backdrops.

It’s a good idea for you to show up a little early, too. You should stretch and warm up for these photos as if you were getting ready for a performance so that when you get in front of the camera, you can really go for it!

Step 4: I Edit, You Pick Your Favorites

Then it’s time for me to work my magic on my end! I’ll cull the photos and edit them, making minor touch-ups.

When they’re ready, I post the images to my proofing website and send you a link so you can take a look.

You choose the images you want to keep. I’ll refine them one last time before sending you the final images!
